This work was part of the group show, I/O, at the EyeLevel Gallery in Halifax and represents the culmination of an electronics residency at the Centre For Art Tapes where I was selected as one of six participants.
For this exhibition I constructed a full bodied “figure” with a moving/motorized video projector in place of the head. Extreme close-up footage of my blinking, twitching eyeball was thrown onto the ceiling and carefully concealed electronic proximity sensors were placed on either side of the “figure”. When a viewer approaches the work the sensors immediately react and cause the projector/head to rotate 90 degrees left or right to track the individual. As a consequence of this rotation, my eyeball projection tracks across the ceiling and onto the gallery walls.
