It’s Win, Win!
These cardboard signs were created and utilized by various individuals around Halifax as they begged for change on the streets. When encountering them on my daily travels I would approach each person immediately and begin negotiations to purchase their sign, paying whatever price was required.
The price I paid would become the works title. I would then scrawl my signature graffiti like across the sign, disrupting the viewer’s relationship with the object and emphasizing my own. The cardboard sign as object, along with the price I paid as title, and my carefully placed signature have now become elements that operate in a tight conceptual orbit.
