Dirt Pile Project
This work was curated by Pan Wendt for the group show, Free Parking, at the Confederation Centre For the Arts in Charlottetown, P.E.I.
The concept for the show was an examination of public park systems, both the idea and physical reality, and their relationship to the immediate city and local population. How do structured public park systems influence the casual viewers daily experience and what kinds of behavior do they motivate?
For Dirt Pile Project I sourced 700 pounds of local organic soil and cooked it in my home oven to guarantee sterilization. The soil was then transported to the gallery for installation. Property of the Park was spray painted on the dirt mound. After the exhibition the soil was donated to Victoria Park in Charlottetown.
