A Year In The Making: The Public Gardens Project
A Year In the Making was the first ever contemporary art exhibition to be held in Halifax’s Victorian era Public Gardens and premiered successfully at the 2010 Nocturne Festival. Located on the Halifax peninsula, the Public Gardens were formally established in 1867 and designated as a national historic site in 1984. They are annually open from approximately May 1 until November 1 during day-time hours only.
Acting as curator and participant I recruited 13 different artists, from emerging to established, and asked them to activate this space for one spectacular night. This project required a year’s worth of negotiations with the local government and other various interest groups to become a reality.
Below is a downloadable PDF program for A Year In The Making that features project abstracts from the individual artists and a map that indicates where each artist was located for the exhibition.
